To take the last question first….it has to be somewhere. Since my major goal is to be a published author, what better site than one called WordPress?
Why am I creating a blog now? Well, let’s face it, until one sells a story, one is a writer. I sold a story. Therefore, it’s probably a good idea to have a blog. Actually, I sold an non-fiction piece, and got honorable mention (non-paying) in an anthology contest.
Here’s how it’s going to work: I will talk about my works in progress, but I will not post them. Why? Posting a work here counts as ‘publication’, specifically, the loss of First Electronic Rights, and is a major disqualifying factor for anyone trying to get published. Oh, you’ll get a good idea about what they are all about, never fear.
When I send an entry off to a market, I will note that, but I won’t tell you which market. Again, it’s not to reduce competition or play “I’ve got a secret”, but for more subtle reasons – I don’t want any complaints that I influenced a competition. Right now, that sound ludicrous, but now is the time to establish good habits.
Similarly, I will not the fact of a rejection, but won’t say who rejected the piece.
However, when I do get an acceptance, there will be fireworks.
