I can honestly say that my career as an author began when I went to Pitchapalooza in Ridgewood, NJ, in April of 2010. Pitchapalooza is the brainchild of The Book Doctors, Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry. You get one minute to pitch your work, and the best pitch of the night wins a qualified introduction to a book agent. My experience at that event gave me enough self confidence to begin writing like I meant it – stuff good enough that I’d be willing to send it out.
I immediately sent out three or four items….and got killed. Worse, I didn’t ask for feedback. So there I lingered. Until I went to another Pitchapalooza. Then, I came in second, and I got my mojo back.
Now, Pitchapalooza is coming to the Bridgewater Public Library, which is right nearby, on March 1st. I am taking this as my deadline to have a MSS ready for Arielle to read. If you happen to be reading this post, and it’s not yet March 1st – get a pitch ready and head over to the BPL!
