The month of Feb is dedicated to getting my standalone novel (which we will call DOV) in some sort of form that I can pass to an agent who has expressed an interest in it.
Here’s the problem. The novel was written in three major sessions: November 2007 (!), and June and July of 2011 (Nano 2007, and Camp NaNo 2011). The total verbiage is something in the 130k range, but I had attacks of “write a scene for this segment” which I would just write in one spot, leaving the essential cut and paste work for later.
Well, it’s later. And it is taking forever. Oh, sure, there are fun spots. A junkyard man with logorrhea, dishonest car shops getting their comuppance, and so on. But the fun of re-reading the good bits is getting drowned with the work of wading through the rest of the text, trying to put it into some form of reasonableness. Then comes the ‘passes’. The grammar pass. The ‘eliminate all notes to self’ pass. The ‘sanity and continuity’ pass. And this must all be done before 1 March. Thank heaven for the three day weekend. The family may not see me at all.
